Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – For hospitals and long-term care facilities, staffing shortages that existed before the pandemic have become much worse. Expiring COVID-19 waivers, new vaccine mandates, and over-crowded emergency rooms now add additional stress on the health care system in central Pennsylvania.

Cumberland Goodwill EMS Chief Nathan Harig reported yesterday that, “every hospital in our area has a full emergency room and is requesting EMS to divert.”

A multi-vehicle automobile accident that occurred on I-83 preceded Chief Harig’s direction for EMS to divert. According to ABC27, a man died after a Monday night crash on Interstate 83. He was ejected from his vehicle and hit by a car, the York County Coroner’s Office said.
