Hershey, Pennsylvania – Neighbors in Derry Township have been sharing similar stories of complaints regarding a door-to-door solicitation for pest control service.

Residents say pest control company Aptive Environmental, a Utah-based company, has been canvassing the area, but according to Derry Township Police the sales representatives have been denied a permit to solicit in the municipality. Residents have alleged that the salesmen are aggressive, and in some cases have trespassed and harassed homeowners.

Despite receiving an A- rating from the Better Business Bureau, Aptive has a track record of deceptive business practices. In 2019 Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s office reached a settlement with the company after Aptive Environmental was accused of deceiving customers in the Pittsburgh area.

Shapiro’s office says Aptive would ignore some consumers’ requests to cancel service. The company would send pest control technicians to these consumers’ homes and then bill them for services that the consumers said they did not want.

Sales representatives also allegedly engaged in door-to-door solicitation in Franklin Park even though they didn’t have proper permits from the borough, and they failed to provide consumers with copies of their service agreements.

  1. Their cancellation fee is 80% of the REMAINING CONTRACT VALUE. It’s a rip-off.
