Lancaster, Pennsylvania — Two men claim to have been insulted by the opinions of mayoral candidate Janet Diaz. Ahmed Ahmed and Jamie Arroyo are now coordinating with a group of activists, including Jessica Lopez who began yelling obscenities at Diaz during a City Council meeting yesterday in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The meeting ended abruptly due to audio failure.
The men, who were born outside of the United States of America, are upset over comments she made. After the meeting, Diaz said she is proud to have been born and raised in the Bronx, NY, and moved to Lancaster at the age of eight years old. Diaz also recently criticized Ahmed for being disrespectful to women at an event, saying, “he responded with noticeable rudeness, particularly toward the woman presenting.”
Ahmed, who is a proud member of the Islamic Center, said he has been in the United States since he was three years old. Ahmed was born in Chad, Africa, and Arroyo was born in Puerto Rico. The group has accused Diaz of being Islamophobic and demand that she resign her campaign for mayor.
Ahmed seeks reelection of his seat on City Council. Arroyo is running against Diaz for Mayor of Lancaster.
