Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – In October, six-term State Representative Patty Kim announced her candidacy for a seat in the Pennsylvania State Senate, and to date there remain no other Democrat challengers in the field ahead of the primary election.
Now unexpectedly, Republican Pennsylvania State Senator John DiSanto announced yesterday that he will not seek re-election in the 15th District in 2024, therefore providing a path for Kim to easily advance through the general election uncontested in a district with new boundaries that lean heavily Democrat.
The 15th District now covers Dauphin County communities including Harrisburg, Hershey, Middletown, and Steelton.
Kim has the full support of Pennsylvania Democrats, including Governor Josh Shapiro. She does not plan to simultaneously run for her current 103rd District house seat, opening a path for other Democrat candidates to campaign for the seat.
According to Dauphin County Democrat Committee Chair Rogette Harris, who recently won an uncontested election for Auditor in Derry Township, “To my knowledge Patty Kim has no Democratic challengers,” she said when asked for comment today.
Former State Representative Andrew Lewis of Harrisburg also provided his perspective on the 2024 election in 15th District, stating, “Republicans have indeed lost the advantage in this district — I don’t think it’s winnable.”
According to Kim’s campaign, President Joe Biden carried the district’s new boundaries by 15 points over then-President Donald Trump in 2020, as reported by Penn Capital-Star.
