Hummelstown, PA – Just a few years ago an Indian food restaurant named Aangan operated on Route 22 in Progress. The food was delicious and they served a fresh lunch buffet daily. Everybody who was familiar, including so many regular customers miss that food.
I’ve tried various other Indian, sushi, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc., restaurants in Harrisburg, Hershey, and West Shore. A variety of establishments have become staples in the community, and many new bistros have now opened, bringing new energy and culture to the region.
Based on an informal survey of local patrons, a list of trending local Asian cuisine has been complied for your information. There are a dozen options within a 20 minute drive, and a handful stand out in the most recent online reviews.
Also, it was only a few years ago that I had some delicious Malaysian food at Jenny’s Kuali in Bethlehem, PA. I am wishfully thinking of how great it would be to have an option like that locally.
The reviews are as follows:
- Khana Indian Bistro has great Indian food, Sawasdee is great Thai, Sakura DO has good sushi. Akitas in Lemoyne is my favorite sushi in the area.
- The chef who worked at Aangan joined with other partners and now runs the Khana Indian Bistro in Hershey. Try it if you have not been there yet.
- The same owners also run Himalayan Fusion on Linglestown Rd near Colonial Rd. Friends say it’s excellent.
Korealicious in Lemoyne is a great Korean option!

- He和 Harmony is the one to go nearby. Another of He和 will be open on Chocolate Avenue in March, I have heard.
- He和 in Middletown has authentic food. Highly recommended.
- He和 in Middletown is wonderful. One of the best around!
We had dinner at Khana last night. It was strangely empty (usually very busy) but lots of takeout going out the door and we had a fantastic meal. The owners are from Nepal so they have Nepalese specialties (Mo-mos and Sekuwa) which are very good. Agree that Sawasdee (E. Chocolate Ave) is the best Thai in Hershey – great food on many visits. Khana and Sawasdee are BYOB.
- My wife and I have eaten at Sawasdee many times, and it is excellent. We used to drive to Sukhothai in Lancaster to get good Thai, but have found Sawasdee to be just as good.
- Sawasdee on Chocolate Avenue- excellent Thai food!
- Q: I was wondering how Sawasdee Thai restaurant is on Chocolate Ave.
- A: Went for the first time last week. It was really good. Everything very fresh!
- Chalit’s Thai bistro, none any better.
- Pho#1 Vietnamese Cuisine at 7011 Allentown Blvd is the best in the area.
- Banana Leaf Indian Cuisine in Mechanicsburg. I bet you’ll really love it. It’s 30 mins drive from here but worth it. Another one is Pariwar Indian cuisine in Camp Hill is also good.
- Pho Kim on Derry Street is tasty. All the Thai mentioned are delicious.
Tri Asian Taste focuses on three Asian cuisines, all under one roof.
- Jasmine Asian Cuisine. That is the one next to Sheetz opposite Deer Run. Its my favorite go-to Asian.
- Jasmine Asian Cuisine on Middletown Rd, right next to the Sheetz. Amazing food.
- We love Jasmine in the “new” plaza next to Sheetz on Middletown Road. Excellent!
- Jasmine; opposite Deer Run in the mall adjacent to Sheetz is very good. It may look empty most times, but they are getting takeout order by the scores every evening. Very tasty too, and economical.
