Pennlive – A man has been charged with leading police in Steelton on a vehicle chase that reached speeds of 100 mph from the borough into Harrisburg, according to police.

Andre Lamont Hughes, 48, of Harrisburg, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, resisting arrest and attempting to elude authorities, as well as six summary violations.

The chase started during an attempted traffic stop after Hughes was seen running two stop signs and not having his headlights on in the area of Second and Pine streets, Steelton police said.

“The vehicle did flee from police into the city of Harrisburg at over 100 mph. Officers did later locate the suspect in the area of North 4th Street at Mulberry Alley where the suspect fled on foot from the vehicle causing officers to give chase,” police said.

Hughes is currently being held in the Dauphin County Prison on $3,000 bail. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 19.
