Harrisburg, PA – A grand jury will convene tomorrow to investigate circumstances surrounding the organization of a voter raffle held on election day at the polling places in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
PennLive.com originally reported an emergency injunction issued Tuesday November 7, 2017, that ordered sheriff’s deputies to visit all Harrisburg polling stations to collect raffle tickets from campaign workers.
Common Pleas Judge Scott Evans said in his ruling the ticket is “promoting of a particular race and suggestive of balloting.”
Legal issues have been expressed by various parties, including local developer Jeremy Hunter, and Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse.
Hunter was involved with the Gloria Martin-Roberts mayoral campaign and has publicly defended Kyle Schlessman, whois at the center of controversy following the reports that Schlessman sponsored the iphone raffle.

Initially Papenfuse suggested that the voter raffle was directly tied to a write-in campaign of a candidate who was challenging his uncontested position on the ballot.
From the other campaign, it’s been alleged that Papenfuse was engaging in voter suppression on election day and is attempting to blackball the names of those who were campaigning for Martin-Roberts. Defense Attorneys may argue that the raffle is fully legal based on examples of similar voter rallies in California and elsewhere.
