Harrisburg, Pennsylvania — The March 11 deadline to circulate petitions has now passed and the Dauphin County Bureau of Elections has posted results of the nomination petitions filed by candidates of local municipal elections to appear on the May 20 primary ballot.
Local elections include mayors, township supervisors, school board directors and several others. March 12 was the first day to circulate and file nomination papers. March 18 is the last day to file objections to nomination petitions.
No Republicans are filed in the mayoral election for the City of Harrisburg. Author John Luciew detailed some of the current struggles in Harrisburg that are influencing this election, and he noted that “historically, the winner of the Democrat nomination goes on to become the city’s next mayor.”
Also noteworthy is the name John Harris Jr. to appear on the ballot for Dauphin County Coroner as a Democrat, therefore potentially challenging incumbent long-time Republican Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick, internationally known as “The Coroner” on the Discovery Channel. Hetrick has served as Dauphin County Coroner for 35 years.
However, John “Jay” Harris Jr. has no relation to the son and father of the same name who founded Harrisburg 300 years ago in the 1700’s.
Democrats Tina Nixon, Timothy Pianka, and Republican John McDonald will appear on the May 20 primary ballot for Dauphin County Clerk of Courts.
