Hershey, Pennsylvania — At the Derry Township Board of Supervisor’s meeting on May 13, Supervisor Zmuda recused himself from a vote to allow alcoholic beverages during outdoor events due to a conflict with his role on the Downtown Hershey Association.
During discussion about the vote, Supervisor Nutt expressed concern about the conditions at Chocolate Town Square park when she questioned if new grass planted in the park can withstand increased pedestrian traffic during outdoor events. She was duly reassured by the director of township public works.
The board voted to allow alcoholic beverages.
Recently, members of the LGBT community expressed dismay by the lack of support from the board of supervisors for a Pride Fest event in Derry Township. Formerly, the group held events downtown, but have subsequently been unable to gain support for their event and the plans have been cancelled this year.
