New plans include 4-story building with 60 apartments, Sheetz, retail, doctor’s office in Hershey

Hershey, Pennsylvania – The southwest corner at the intersection of Governor Road and Fishburn Road has been the subject of countless public hearings surrounding the master plan of 7 acres to be developed commercially on the site where traffic has been a key concern.

The long embattled project, now called ‘The Crossing in Hershey,’ has always included the construction of a Sheetz convenience store and gas station, as well as a medical office, and pharmacy. Early plans proposed a kiddie academy, and relocating Sand Hill Road with a new traffic signal at Fishburn Road.

Sheetz remains a staple of the project, but is now planned to be built adjacent to a new traffic signal at the relocated intersection of Sand Hill Road and Fishburn Road, rather than adjacent to Governor Road. Along with a 4-story mixed used building, the new plan also proposes 2 other commercial office buildings on the site, and relocating Sand Hill Road. Access to the parking lot of Karns is included with the development plan. Hershey Pharmacy & Gift Shop will relocate from the Karns plaza to The Crossing in Hershey.

Existing structures have been cleared from the site. Plans for a large 4-story building with street-level retail storefronts facing the intersection of Governor Road and Fishburn Road include 62 apartments on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors. Retail agreements have been reached to build a salon and restaurant in the storefronts facing Governor Road.

Derry Township Supervisor E. Christopher Abruzzo remarked during a public hearing in April that concerns have been raised about how a new extension of Hope Drive would impact nearby KinderCare, however these concerns would need to be addressed outside of the scope of the proposal for The Crossing in Hershey.
