HARRISBURG, Pa. — A group is making a push in Pennsylvania to get rid of a restriction that prevents people who aren’t here legally from getting a driver’s license or state identification.
This proposed legislation is controversial due to the potential implications for noncitizens to register to vote.
A similar circumstance exists in New York where a loophole in the law granting illegal immigrants driver’s licenses could lead to voter fraud. The new law granting driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants will allow hundreds of thousands of people to fraudulently register to vote in New York, according to critics, the state Board of Elections and the bill’s own sponsor.
Members of the Driving PA Forward Coalition said there are 150,000 to 200,000 undocumented Pennsylvanians who could benefit from being allowed to obtain a standard issue state ID or a driver’s license using an individual tax identification number.
According to a report in January, 2019, Pennsylvania officials admit that more than 11,000 noncitizens have already registered to vote due to a glitch in state motor vehicle bureau computers that allowed noncitizens to register to vote easily.
Members of the coalition said driver’s licenses are a state issue, and with no action at the federal level, they’re pressing for change at the State Capitol in Harrisburg, and has more outreach events planned in the coming months. They argue that by allowing undocumented people in Pennsylvania to drive legally it would help them better provide for their families, give them a way to get to and from work and make the roads safer.

This is bull. They are breaking the law. That is what illegal means. Quit giving crap to them. Put them on a bus back to where they came from. You know they will get drivers license and not get insurance. They will be hitting our family with their worthless pieces of crap and then high tail it out of here for the victim to be stuck paying medical bills. I do not understand how these people break the law and then get rewarded. I hate illegal immigrants. They are robbing this country of our resources. Thank you to all who come here legally. I am an American citizen i am all for this bill to pass i believe if they have no criminal history an clean background check an have an ITN # want to work an provide for there families then pass the bill if they pay the taxes let them be able to get the state ID to be able to work the right way an drive legally at the end of the day we all are immigrants are ancestors came here

Sorry Becca, we’re NOT all immigrants. Our forefathers the American Colonists were foreigners and even here ILLEGALLY when they took North America from Native Americans. Contemporary Americans were “born” here so we’re not immigrants. You seem to be confused about real-world facts. Back in the 1600s the WORLD population was in the MILLIONS. Today it is approaching 8 Billion. There are few if any unexplored and populated areas on the planet. American population alone is approaching 400 M. Jobs are being lost to technology with no central plan to re-educate and plan for future employment for people [as a result of machines taking their jobs]. Americans are loosing jobs to globaliztion. Why are we NOT utilizing national resources to train and educate Americans who were born here? It’s time that Americans [like many other nations] come to the realization that immigration is simply an escape from deplorable conditions those immigrants themselves tolerated because of corrupt governments, etc. Rather than putting forth the effort to make their native countries more civil.

Stop trying to put the cart before the horse! Apply for citizenship, go through the process, become a citizen and EARN the right to vote here by becoming a Pennsylvanian and an American. There are policies already in place for them why fast track and change them…I have witnessed an illegal person get a loan at wells Fargo in Carlisle and I’m born here with 3 accounts and I couldn’t get a loan. This is sad and utterly a slap in the face. I ask the rep how is this even legal they stated that any illegal person can get a loan due to insurance that the bank has but a citizen with poor credit not bad but poor or no credit there is no insurance for and that person is considered a high risk. I laughed and closed all accounts and went to F and M Trust

OK Penndot Suspended my license for underage drinking at 15, I could not get one because it was lost in the system till Wolfe passed a lay I received a letter stating it was off suspension after 28 years.
Should we be concern about illegal voting among people who can drive with felons? Or teenagers 16 and 17 years old?
Trust me till you dont have a legal way to get a driver license you have no idea how hard it is to support yourself.

Our politicians have gone mad. Illegals do not have the right/privilege to drive or vote in PA and it should stay that way. As far as I am concerned if you have come here undocumented/illegally the you are a felon. Prisoners lose their rights and privileges when convicted of a crime, illegal actions and you want to give illegals rights and privileges when they have committed a crime. So sad. No way should they stay here. Send them back and go thru the proper process.
